Sweet Definition

The first step to discover the meaning of the term sweet is to know its etymological origin. In this case, we can state that it is a word that derives from Latin, exactly from “dulcis” which means “sweet”.

According to abbreviationfinder, the notion of sweet is used to describe what causes a pleasant and subtle effect on the palate. It is about the taste that, in a comparison, is not salty, bitter or sour.

For example: “I am more tempted by sweet foods than salty ones”, “I feel like eating something sweet… is there any chocolate left?”, “The cake is too sweet, I think it has too much sugar”.

The sweet taste is common in breakfast, snacks and desserts. Sweet foods are usually high in carbohydrates, especially sucrose (common sugar).

Certain foods that are characterized by this type of flavor, such as jams and candies or sweets, are also often known as sweets. It is important to keep in mind that, due to the high level of sugar, the consumption of sweets should be limited to avoid the development of cavities or diabetes problems.

In this definition we have to establish that, as a general rule, each country or region has, as with traditional dishes, what is known as typical sweets. Thus, for example, in the case of Spain we can establish that among those are the Santiago cake, which has the silhouette of the cross of Santiago; the gypsy arm, the alfajores, the mille-feuille, the donuts, the miguelitos, the saint’s bones, the marzipan or the bacon from heaven.

The idea of sweet can also be used to refer to what is calm or pleasant and to the person who is affectionate and cordial: “The new album by the Chilean artist begins with a very sweet song that he dedicated to his daughter”, “Thank you for the gift, you are very sweet”, “What a sweet child!”.

Dulce, finally, is a feminine name. The Mexican actress and singer Dulce María Espinosa Saviñón (artistically known simply as Dulce María) and the Spanish writer Dulce Chacón are two personalities that are called in this way.

To these figures we should also add the well-known Dulce Pontes, who is an internationally known fado singer who, among other things, has achieved that the aforementioned fado is reborn and regains relevance throughout the world. She has ten albums on the market and has made musical collaborations with artists such as Andrea Bocelli, Carlos Núñez, Ennio Morricone or Daniela Mercury, among many others.

It is established that women named like this stand out for having very firm ideas, for being very close and kind in close contact and even for being staunch defenders of both their family and their friends. Likewise, it is indicated that they have a big heart, that they have artistic talent and that they are very creative people.
